The Longest Healthy Life Expectancy in Japan

Shizuoka Prefecture seeks to ensure that residents can enjoy healthy lives with access to safe, reliable, and high-quality medical care. As part of this, the prefectural government has launched several initiatives aimed at boosting residents’ health, such as campaigns against lifestyle-related diseases. Thanks to these efforts, Shizuokans enjoy the longest healthy life expectancy in all of Japan.

One of the focal areas of the prefecture’s health policy is creating livable communities for senior citizens. In the year 2025, the baby boomer generation will be seventy-five years or older. In recognition of this fact, Shizuoka has established guidelines for local medical care and set up a fund called the Community Care General Security Fund. This is used as a resource for reinforcing the health care system in local communities and securing the talent needed to provide top-quality medical care.

Despite already boasting the longest healthy life expectancy in the nation, Shizuoka continues to commit to even further improvement in this area as well. The prefecture has launched several sub-projects, such as the Gen’en 55 Program and Fuji 33 Program under the umbrella of its Fujinokuni Healthy Longevity Project. These initiatives are aimed at helping residents all over the prefecture lead wholesome lifestyles. Other undertakings focus on strengthening diabetes care, providing health seminars and health exam data analysis for private companies, and publicizing Shizuoka’s healthy life expectancy both within and outside the prefecture via summit events

Shizuoka Prefecture’s current health policy is outlined in a blueprint called the Third Fujinokuni Health Improvement Plan. This plan delineates a strategy based on cooperation between the government and businesses, local communities, medical professionals, and other organizations throughout the prefecture. Through this unified front, Shizuoka Prefecture will continue to make every effort to safeguard its residents’ lifestyles for the future.
