By Plane

Shizuoka is directly accessible via Mount Fuji Shizuoka Airport, located on the border of Shimada and Makinohara in central Shizuoka Prefecture. Other close-by hubs include Chubu Centrair International Airport in Nagoya and Haneda Airport (Tokyo International Airport), each of which is approximately two hours by train from Shizuoka city.

By Train

The Tokaido Shinkansen bullet train links Shizuoka with Japan’s major cities, including Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya. From Shizuoka Station, the bullet train’s Hikari express takes 63 minutes to Tokyo, 58 minutes to Nagoya, and 112 minutes to Osaka. In total, there are six Shinkansen stations in Shizuoka Prefecture, ranging from Hamamatsu in the west to Atami in the east.

By Car or Bus

Shizuoka Prefecture is easily reachable from major cities thanks to daily bus connections. With the long-existing Tomei Expressway and the opening of the Shin-Tomei Expressway in 2012 (and its extension in 2016), Shizuoka city is now only a two-and-a-half-hour journey from Tokyo and Nagoya.
