Greeting

The town of Nagaizumi is located near central Japan in the eastern portion of Shizuoka prefecture. This area is blessed with a mild climate and an abundance of natural beauty.Nagaizumi is conveniently situated near three world-famous tourist spots: Mt.Fuji, Hakone and Izu Peninsula. Welcome you wholeheartedly to our town!

Location

The town of Nagaizumi has an abundance of natural beauty and culturally significant and historic monuments. Nagaizumi is perfectly complemented by natural attractiveness and city convenience. Nagaizumi is situated in an area surrounded by nature, with the beautiful Hakone Mountains to the east, the culturally significant, and picturesque Mt. Fuji to the north, and alluring Suruga Bay to the south. Nagaizumi is continuously developing its transportation system to further the convenience of the town. It already has a very rich transportation network ? including the Tomei Expressway, National Route 246, the Tokaido Super Express and now the 2nd Tomei expressway ?it is under construction, will add further to this network.

Amenity

The population is approximately 40,000 and is on the rise. The northern area of the town is the predominantly uninhabited Ashitaka Mountains. To the south to these mountains is the main settlement of Nagaizumi. The Nagizumi area is blessed with a mild climate, and is a pleasant temperature all your round. Nagaizumi takes pride in the town’s character which is best seen in the relationships formed by the people of Nagaizumi in a variety of community activities.

Events & Friendship

Nagaizumi formed links with the Southern Hemisphere city of Wanganui (New Zealand) in 1988. The two towns are continually broadening their knowledge of each other’s cultures through an exchange student program, an ALT (Assistant Language Teacher) program, and various other exchange activities performed by the everyday people of both Cities. ‘Waku Waku Festival’ is an event participated in by the whole town. The festival is a chance for the people of Nagaizumi to meet each other, and both young and old, and everyone in-between, enjoy the event. The townspeople by day turn into heroes and heroines, coloring the street by night.

Sports & Culture

Nagaizumi takes pride in its prefecture-wide reputation for sports activities. People of all ages enjoy the mental and physical conditioning gained through sports. In addition, the public education program offers lectures and classes on a variety of subjects for the town’s people to enjoy.

Industry

The location of Nagaizumi makes it attractive to many companies. Being close to the Tomei Expressway, National Routes 1 and 246 and the Tokaido Railway Lines give companies easy access to both rail and road transportation, making Nagaizumi a convenient and attractive town to do business from.

Agriculture & Business

Nagaizumi is proud of the many kinds of special products created within the town. In the spring, ‘Nagaizumi Clematis’ colors our town. ‘Nagaizumi Melon’ is the taste of summer. In autumn, the harvest season, Nagaizumi becomes famous for ‘Yotsumizogaki (Persimmon)’ and we cannot cook a dish without ‘Shironegi (Welsh Onion)’ in the cold winter. We are also proud of our world renowned ‘Ashitaka Beef’. So you will be treated to a culinary delight in whichever season you come to Nagaizumi. Recently, Nagaizumi has benefited from the addition of some large stores. This is particularly evident in the shopping street in front of Shimotogari station. The result is enhancing the town of Nagaizumi, and enlivening the area.
