Oyama Town is located in the northeast of Shizuoka Prefecture and its northwestern
part reaches Mt. Fuji. Extending from east to west, Oyama Town is surrounded
by the Mikuni Range which forms the caldera of Mt. Fuji, the Tanzawa Mountains
on the northeast, and the Hakone Gairin Mountains on the southeast. Originating
in both the Fuji and Hakone mountains, the Ayusawa River flows eastward
while converging with the Sano, Su, and Nozawa Rivers, and eventually becomes
the Sakawa River. With a total area of 136.13 square km, Oyama is broadly
divided into the four districts of Oyama, Ashigara, Kitago, and Subashiri.

Oyama, a Friendly and Caring Hometown at the Foot of Mt.Fuji
|
While acknowledging major changes in the present times, such as fluctuating
economic conditions, the falling birth rate, the graying population, and
globalization, Oyama Town has formulated the "Phase III Oyama Comprehensive
Plan" which gazes ahead into the 21st century. We are now pushing
forward diverse polices according to this plan. The basic principle during
elaboration of the plan was the creation of a town where all residents
could live with convenience and safety, and "Oyama, a friendly and
caring hometown at the foot of Mt. Fuji" was selected as the future
image of our town. Our objectives are to preserve the superb natural environment,
promote pleasant and enjoyable civic lifestyles, and create a local culture
that is rich in distinctively local characteristics.
