Shizuoka’s population of resident foreigners nearly doubled in the last decade. With the growing number of foreigners and more residents traveling abroad or working with overseas partners, Shizuoka Prefecture encourages international exchanges at all levels.
Shizuoka has worked to build up its relationship with a number of foreign countries and regions, including a 25-year friendship tie with China's Zhejiang Province and long-term relationships with Britain's West Midlands region and several U.S. states.
To better serve the needs of resident foreigners, Shizuoka Prefecture provides a variety of supports including provision of foreign-language brochures and radio programs, Japanese-language lessons for children, and various cultural exchange programs.
