Satoshi Miyagi’s Festive Musical, Mahabharata ~Nalacharitam~

The Ring Stage of the Festival d’Avignon Comes to Sumpu Castle Park!

Mahabharata ~Nalacharitam~ is a stunning visual portrayal of ancient India’s most beautiful and splendorous epic tale of love. Performed over two weeks in July 2014 at the Festival d’Avignon, the world's largest theater festival, it filled the roughly 1,000 seats of the venue day after day, each time to standing ovation. Following a successful performance at the Kanagawa Arts Theatre, or KAAT, last September, Mahabharata is finally coming to Shizuoka. The performance will take place in the former Sumpu Castle tower area on a ring-shaped stage completely surrounding the audience’s seats. This play will take the Shizuoka performances of 2012 and 2014 one step further, representing the pinnacle of Satoshi Miyagi’s festive musicals. Come and feast your eyes as the actors’ performance turns the stage into a colorful picture scroll!

However, when she becomes exhausted and falls asleep, Nala leaves her, taking a piece of her clothes with him. While wandering through the forest searching for her husband, Damayanti encounters a number of dangers. She finally manages to reach her father’s kingdom against all odds. At the same time, after enduring numerous misfortunes, Nala also reaches this realm. Will the couple be able to reunite and gain back their kingdom?
