Information Regarding Shizuoka Green Tea for 2012

　Radioactive cesium above the regulatory limit was detected in green tea produced in Shizuoka this year due to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident in March. We recognize that this caused great inconveniences to our tea distributors and consumers.
　Based on the Shizuoka Tea Research Center analyses, the Shizuoka Prefectural Government provided guidance for a more thorough tea production management to our tea producers. As a result, it was determined that radioactive levels have significantly dropped.
　From this, the Shizuoka Prefectural Government concludes that teas produced from the rest of the year onward are safe for our distributors and consumers.

• The first flush processed teas are not blended, thus the location of the tea source can be determined.
• The unrefined teas are made of primary fresh leaves, which were processed at tea factories in each tea producing areas.
• The first and second flushes were primarily analyzed by the Yokohama Quarantine Station, with a portion analyzed by the National Institute of Public Health. The autumn flush was analyzed by Seikan co., LTD, an independent inspection company, based on requirements stipulated by the Food Sanitation Act of Japan.
