Shizuoka Cancer Center (Opened: September 2002)
Built in September 2002, the Shizuoka Cancer Center was created to be a landmark hospital offering reassurance to local residents from its hilltop location. Its bright interior has been designed to let users reach facilities easily by following clearly marked guidelines. Extensive use of universal design augments the center’s various support facilities. Its treatment methods are always sensitive to the needs of patients and families, and it works to ensure that medical services always meet the expectations of Shizuoka’s residents.

- A total of 34 family restrooms are provided throughout the hospital.
- Multipurpose sinks and other specialized facilities have been provided in three of the family restrooms to facilitate restroom use by ostomates.
- A total of 16 oversized wheelchair-accessible toilet stalls (with child seats) have been provided throughout the hospital.
- All standard toilet stalls have handrails and call buttons.
- Recorded messages, braille information and ridged guide paths are provided for the visually impaired.
- Pictorial signs facilitate universal understanding.
- For easy wheelchair access, all four of the standard elevators have a floor width and length of at least 1.5 meters.
- An escalator has been provided to facilitate the arrival of all incoming users. Its 1.2-meter width allows caregivers to stand next to patients.
- At least one oversized phone booth is provided on each floor (a total of 13).
- All reception areas have wheelchair-accessible counters.
