Mt. Fuji Children's World (Opened: 1999)
Mt. Fuji Children’s World is a park that was designed to incorporate universal design elements. In addition to the children it primarily targets, it was created for enjoyment by the disabled, parents with infants in strollers, seniors, and non-Japanese visitors. It has welcomed a large number of visitors since opening on April 26, 1999.
Universal Design Elements
- The park’s roads are on gradients of no more than 5%.
- The front gate stairs have a small automated monorail.
- Ridged guide paths guide visually impaired park visitors to points of interest.
- Recorded guidance messages and touch-sensitive diagrams are provided.
- 22 family restrooms are provided.
- Facilities are wheelchair-accessible.
- The park’s monorail cars accommodate wheelchairs.
- Electric rental carts give visitors improved mobility throughout the park (at a cost of 600 yen for two hours).
