Numazu Station North Entrance Square
Universal ease of use
JR Numazu Station is the gateway to Numazu, a major city in eastern Shizuoka. The square at the station’s north entrance was redesigned in July 2002 to incorporate universal design elements. The use of universal design in a station front square is a first for Shizuoka and would be considered innovative anywhere in Japan. Recognized for its user-oriented design enabling universal ease of use, the square was awarded the 2002 Twenty-First Century Human and Construction Technology Prize by the Japan Construction Engineers’ Association.
