Hamamatsu Ohiradai High School (Opened: April 2006)
Hamamatsu Ohiradai High School has school facilities open to local residents. Its continuing education courses in areas such as personal computers, foreign languages, psychology and yoga are popular with both able-bodied and disabled residents of all ages. Its facilities incorporate universal design for secure, safe and comfortable use by students and other users.
Universal Design Elements
- Each floor of each wing has restrooms for the disabled (11 restrooms, one of them ostomate-compatible).
- Elevators are provided in every wing.
- Two automatic doors have been provided.
- All indoor entrances are pull-doors.
- Stairwells have double handrails, with braille stickers to enable use by the visually impaired.
- A standard design format has been used for guidance signs, with abundant use of oversized, easy-to-read icons.
- The height of wall power outlets has been raised from the standard 20 cm to 40 cm. Switches have been lowered from 120 cm to 100 cm.
- Parking for two wheelchair-user vehicles has been provided.
