Governor KAWAKATSU Heita was sworn in as Shizuoka's 44th Governor on July 7, 2009. He is currently serving his fourth term. Prior to becoming governor, Dr. Kawakatsu served for numerous distinguished academic institutions, including Shizuoka University of Art and Culture, National Institute for Research Advancement, International Research Center for Japanese Studies (Nichibunken), and Waseda University.
Governor Kawakatsu continues to be an active academic and has consistently published during his governorship. His most recent publications in English include The Lancashire Cotton Industry and Its Rivals (2018) and Asia and the History of the International Economy (2018). He earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Economics from Waseda University and Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) in Economic History from Oxford University. Governor Kawakatsu is a native of Kyoto.
